Leah had her 15 month check up Today. Her doctor said that she is right on track developmentally and was very impressed with her vocabulary ( which consists of 30-40 words...She said that 3-5 words is what is expected at 15 months.) This was the first appointment that I had to take her to alone, which meant that I had to be the one to hold her down for her shots (Nick usually does it). She actually does a really good job with her shots, she only gets upset while she's getting them and then is perfectly fine right afterward. I think I am more traumatized by it then she is, so after her appointment I took her to the mall to get a cookie and play at the dinosaur park.
Over the last week or so Leah has really been seeming like a toddler to me, and I am feeling more and more that I am not equipped to raise a toddler. I'm starting to miss the sweet innocence of little babies. However, I didn't feel capable of raising a baby either, and we apparently made it through that part, so hopefully we will all make it through toddler-hood too :). Some toddler signs that have been creeping in lately; the constant use of the word 'no'.
Examples: "Leah you did a poopoo, can mama change your diaper?" "NO!" - I have now learned NOT to ask her these things :)
The Temper-tantrum: This usually consists of either stomping her feet and turning in circles or flinging her whole body around while screaming/crying. It is amazing how strong she is!
Her need to explore: Leah has always been a curious child, but she is more capable of getting into things now then she has been in the past, her new favorite place to play is in the cupboard where I keep my baking supplies (I don't let her do this often, only when I need to be in the kitchen and she refuses to be in the other room).
Her need to constantly be on the go: She is becoming less and less likely to be found in a stroller or shopping cart, or basically anything that prevents her from walking around, this makes going to the grocery store extremely difficult!
As mentioned in the last post, we did a trial class at The Little Gym, and decided to sign her up. It's a really cool place that focuses on learning, and it's a perfect opportunity once a week to let her run around and explore and get her wiggles out. We are constantly on the hunt these days for activities for her to get us both out of the house, but also avoiding the heat (it's been 95+ here lately!)
So that's the news for now. And for those of you who are interested, here are her 15 months stats:
Weight - 20lbs 5oz - 15%
Height - 30in - 60%
Head - 90% ( she needs a big head to store all those brains ;)

Leah is such a doll! I got a kick out of witnessing the whole "No, I do not need a new diaper" at the park last week:) Watching you two helps prepare me for my life in a few months...
Way to go Leah! Yes those toddler moments are trying. It gets better as time goes on...and worse in some ways :( Oh & I stopped taking kids to the grocery store. Now I plan everything around going to the store alone. End result, I don't go very often & we have nothing to eat! Oh well!
She really is darling. Eli and I signed up for a Mommy/baby swim class at the Boulder rec center in September - that's how we're getting out. Of course after I signed up I realized I have to find somethign to squeeze into...
I've wanted to do swimming with Leah! What's the age group....
Ashleigh it is so fun to see how your little one is growing. She is a doll. Toddlers are very tricky, but so delightful, you'll do great! I am trying to create as much as a "yes" environment as I can instead of always "no" for my little ones, it helps with their frustration. I am sure that her messes will get bigger, I am amazed at what my two and four year olds can produce at times! ha ha ha. Sending love to both you and Nick!
