So as Nick has picked up a new hobby that is helping him to get in better shape, I have, on the other hand, started taking cake decorating class. Which means a cake a week for 15 weeks. After watching many episodes of Ace of Cakes and Food Network Challenge for cakes, I decided that it was something I am interested in, although I have no expectations of ever being that good. The classes consist of 4 courses with 4 2hr classes in each course. And with Nicks new found dedication to fitness, the lady's at work have been enjoying my new found hobby. The first cake, the rainbow cake was to practice the "star fill-in" technique. Cake #2, the clowns, was to practice shells, dots and frosting characters. So far I have learned some basics; icing and filling a cake, frosting characters, star and shell borders, and a few others. But in the future I will hopefully be skilled in the art of frosting roses, tiered cakes and fondant.
Never having been much of a cook, or a baker, I am currently using boxed cake mix to make my cakes, but soon I plan to venture out and make them from scratch. If anyone has any good cake recipes I would love to hear them!

Holy Bananas! We are so coming over more often, I dont care what you say. Those cakes look GOOD!!!!!
PS, welcome to the world of blogging!
My friend Natalie and I got inspired and tried to make a cake with roses made out of gum paste. It was disgusting. These cakes look amazing; I'm so jealous of your new skills!
How can you say you have never been able to cook. I recall a certain group of girls baking at 2 and 3 in the morning when they where in middle school. I believe also that I have video proof of this action. But these cakes look far more challenging then what I remember us ever attempting. You are so creative. I love it.
My dad is a cake fiend. I am dead serious. So, we have collected more cake recipes than you could ever ask for. And....he's a bit of a snob about cake, so they're all really good ones too. :)
