The Ultimate Bruise

Nick's will be turning 25 on June 30th.  To me, 25 is an important birthday, so I wanted to try to do something special for him.  I was looking into a small weekend getaway somewhere, but between his school schedule, my work schedule, and a limited budget, there wasn't much I could find.

Nick has recently become interested in the world of Ultimate Fighting.  He read a book about a reporter who decided to learn more about the sport, he traveled the world and started training in the different types of Mixed Martial Arts.  After reading this book and watching different fights and shows on Ultimate Fighting, Nick has come to respect the sport.

So it started with me trying to find a fighting match in the area that we could get tickets to for Nicks birthday.  That idea fell through, being that there are no fights in Colorado until September.  So I started thinking that maybe Nick would be interested in taking some fighting classes himself.  I suggested it to him and he was interested.  He found a gym about 15 mins from home and gave them a call to find out about their 'beginner program'.  The next night he went to check it out.  When he got home I asked him how it was, and he had signed up for a 3 month membership, that allowed him to go as much as he wants.  I was happy that he enjoyed it, and quite pleased with my idea for his birthday present.  He has been going about three nights a week and continues to really enjoy it, although every night he goes, he comes home with a new bruise or scratch and says he has never been in so much pain.  It's only been about 2 weeks since he started, so the pain should ease up the more he goes.   Stayed tuned for updates on his progress, and hopefully less bruises :)

Yikes! That's a big bruise. My brother Jason actually has decided he wants to get into ultimate fighting. He got to go watch a fight last April and was hooked.
