2 months old

Sorry for the lack of blogging, but I find that time gets away from me these days!  So a lot has happened since the last time I blogged.  Leah has been changing daily and she is keeping us entertained.   She has started smiling a ton, especially in the morning and when she is with Nick.  She will even make an almost laughing sound occasionally which is just adorable, we can't wait for the real thing!  She's discovered her hands and LOVES to suck on them, I think she will be in 7th heaven when she realizes that she has fingers she can suck on!  We've also realized that she really likes ceiling fans, if there is one going, she will most likely be staring at it.  She also likes watching The Bachelorette with me, I figure it's never to early to start teaching her about silly boys :)

She has been doing amazingly well at night.  The first 5 weeks or so were pretty rough and we we're pretty delirious most of the time.  We'd wake up and freak out thinking that she was in the bed with us (which she never was) and realize that what we thought was her, was actually just a pillow. Some friends of ours who have a baby that is a week older then Leah, told us about this thing called the "miracle blanket".  We have been using it since she was about 6 weeks old and it is great.  However, she is kind of a baby Houdini and can sometimes wiggle her legs out of it, but for the most part it keeps her swaddled better then anything else. After we started using the blanket, Leah went from sleeping 3-4 hours at a time, to about 5-6 hours at a time.  We were really happy with the improvement and then she started sleeping 7 hours, and just the other night she went 8 hours!!   I was so shocked that I kept waking up to check if she was okay.  We are so thankful to be getting some more sleep and we feel very blessed that she is doing so well at night now (hopefully it continues!)  She's also sleeping better during the day, I'm working on getting her to sleep in her crib and not on me, but it is a huge relief that she is able to nap, and she has been less fussy during the day because of it.

Leah had her 2 month check up on her 2 month birthday, July 21st.  She Weighed 10lbs 8oz and was 22 inches long (50th% for both) and her head circumference is in the 80th%!  The doctor said that means she has a big brain :).  The doctor put her on her tummy to check her arm strength, and she rolled over! I think she was just showing off :).  She also had her first round of shots, which I think was harder on me and Nick then it was on her.  She didn't cry with the needle, just when the medicine went in, and she was fairly easy to calm down afterwards.  She fell asleep on the way home and slept for a while afterwards.  When she woke up it had been about 5 hours since we had given her the tylenol, and she seemed to be in a lot of pain.  We gave her some more tylenol and she screamed for about 20mins until it kicked in.  We quickly realized that when your baby is in pain and there is nothing you can do, 20 minutes easily feels like an hour.  She slept the rest of the afternoon and then about 6 hours that night, and we were thrilled that she woke up the next morning her happy, smily self.  Hopefully her 4 month shots wont be too bad either.

The doctor suggested that we move her into her own room soon.  We plan on starting that soon, and hopefully the new room won't be to big of an adjustment for her (or me!)  And hopefully won't have a negative effect on her sleeping.

Coming up, Leah will have her baby blessing on August 2nd, and will take her first vacation in September, to Utah for my cousins wedding.

I'd always wake up thinking that Zach was in bed and that we were squishing him or something too. It's funny how that can happen when they've never actually slept in the bed with you. I can't believe Leah's 2 months old already. Hopefully we can see you guys before we head back to Utah. Would it be okay if we came over sometime during the first week of August? We're pretty flexible on time of day.

I really miss "my little girl". I'm glad you blogged while I was in Florida so I could see her beautiful face.

Baby Leah is so cute! We love seeing her. I'm glad to hear she's doing well & you're adjusting to parenthood. It's rough in the beginning but it's worth it : )
