You make me happy when skies are....gray? grey?
Again with another Pinterest inspired project. We're going with somewhat of a gray and yellow color theme in our new house (sorry, I promise I'll blog about that soon) and I had another pinterest inspired project that I wanted to do. I bought an 11x14 canvas and painted it gray. Once it was dry, I stenciled on the words "you make me happy when skies are grey" in yellow, and a yellow sun at the bottom of the canvas. Before I started painting I wrote out the words in pencil just to get an idea for placement. When I got to the word "gray/grey" I wasn't sure how to spell it. I've seen it spelled both ways and wasn't sure when to use which one. So, I did what I do whenever I don't know something, and I Googled it. I found that the spelling grAy is the American way to spell it, and grEy is the English way to spell it. So I decided to go with they English spelling, and here's why. My grandma on my mom's side used to sing this song to me when I was a little girl (I'm sure my mom did to, I just specifically remember my grandma singing it). And, my grandma is from England, so, there you have it. And now I sing this song to Leah, so it has special meaning to me and I thought that it deserved an homage in our home somewhere.
The beauty/flaw of handmade items is that they can never be perfect. When I was done with the lettering I pulled out some of Leah's art brushes to do some touch up.
